There is both pain and joy during the days of my life
During the days of my life there is success and struggle
During the days of my life there are clouds and sunlight
During the days of my life there is rejoicing and sadness

During the nights of my life there is gentle slumber
During the nights of my life there is anxious awakening
During the nights of my life there is a moment of insight
During the nights of my life there is a closeness with you

During the travels of my life there is awe and wonder
During the travels of my life there is pain and suffering
During the travels of my life you point out paths of discovery
During the travels of my life you show me need and hunger

How oh Lord do you appoint my paths?
How oh Lord do you arrange my safety?
How oh Lord do you protect my thoughts?
How oh Lord do you enhance my wisdom?

It is because of your love and compassion that you use me
It is because of your strength and purpose that you inspire me
It is because of your plan and your vision that you guide me
It is because of your patience and caring that you allow me to be me for you

For in every truth and every reality you exist
You exist and provide a gentle covering for me

I live in the shadow of your wings
I serve in the shadow of your wings
I rejoice in the shadow of your wings
I learn in the shadow of your wings

And yes Lord, I sing in the shadow of your wings
